Starting 2017

Like many I started 2017 doing a personal mental recap of 2016. The past year was another transition year for me. Full of changes and new experiences. Some were fun and happy, others were challenging and sleep depriving. I am grateful for all I learned. As I look back, I recall those moments that were particularly difficult. The mistakes I made, the bad decisions of people I admire and the hurtful words of loved ones. As I remember these instances I quickly realize that I have held far too much to the hurt and guilt. I did not forgive myself or others, at least not entirely. This is added weight to bring into 2017. The year just started and Google is filled with sad news. It’s not a good idea to keep holding on to the grudges and the guilt. So as I start 2017, I talk to Jesus about my past mistakes, I ask him to forgive me and take away the guilt. I ask for his help to move forward and not let my own thinking and feelings hold me back. I ask for his help to forgive those who hurt me in 2016. I pray for blessings in their lives. I pray that I may bless them this year with his love.

I don’t know how you are starting your year, but I encourage you, if you are carrying on weight from 2016, take it to Jesus and leave it in his hands. Ask him for wisdom and love to move forward. Borrow his smile and compassion and ask him to change your perspective on the events. If you made a mistake, ask for his forgiveness. If you were hurt, ask for his love to cover you and give you all you need to forgive the ones who hurt you. 2017 is too short to relive 2016.
